Why our reviews are worth reading
As a web agency, we use/test a LOT of hosting providers to scale both our clients and our many many side-projects (we like to experiment).
Having done this for quite a few years now, we've used, analysed, and reviewed a lot of web hosts... these are our findings.
A few of the better-known brands that link to our content
eUKhost: A quick summary for people with no time (pretty much all of us)
In a nutshell, eUKhost is not a bad host… at all. BUT, there are better options out there that offer more disk space, have a global reach with multiple data centres around the world, and better security.
Most user reviews are on the positive side, the remaining negative reviews usually have to do with sites going down (bad uptime), and security issues (which is not great).
So what we’re really saying is… eUKhost is decent, and you’ll probably be pretty happy with them, but there definitely are better alternatives.
Our favourite is still SiteGround, they’re more affordable for the initial invoice (69% discount), are GREAT at security, have multiple data centres around the world (including in London), and are officially recommended by WordPress (<- very few companies can claim this. They can, of course, tackle any CMS you throw at them), they’re a true no-brainer, check out our review here.
Still interested in eUKhost, keep reading below.
This UK based company started in 2001 and its headquarters is now located in Leeds. Its data centres are located in Wakefield, Nottingham, and Maidenhead. With more than 15 years of experience in the web hosting industry in England, their portfolio is becoming more and more sophisticated.
The company uses branded Dell hardware to provide a variety of services such as Shared Hosting, WordPress hosting, VPS Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Cloud Hosting, and Dedicated Servers. They are among one of Europe’s first companies to provide fully-automated web hosting solutions. Plus, they provide hosting services to over 35,000 customers and more than 150,000 domains. They also serve various public sector organisations in the United Kingdom.
eUKhost provides three shared web hosting plans. These three packages are simply named Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. They can be seen below:
The cheapest plan is called the Basic plan and costs GBP 3.33 per month. They offer three payment terms, semi-annual (6 months), annual (12 months), and biennial (24 months). Annual and biennial payment terms do not have lower prices. Every payment term costs GBP 3.33 per month. A month-per-month mode of payment is not available with eUK Host Ltd. Thus, upon signing up with the cheapest plan, you have to pay a minimum of 6 months which costs a total of GBP 19.98.
If you pay a minimum of 12 months, you are given a free domain name with the following extensions, .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk, and .eu. This comes in handy if you want to save extra cash. Also, if you are just starting out, you don’t have to pay an extra for the domain name registration of your new website.
You are given 2GB worth of storage space with the Basic plan. This means you can only store a total worth of 2GB of data on your website. This is enough if you’re planning to build a small business website, or personal blog, but might become an issue if you want to store lots of images (like photographers might need), or start an e-commerce store with lots of products.
You can have an unlimited number of domains and subdomains in your hosting account. This means you can have multiple websites hosted under one account. This is very handy if you have a lot of websites you want to manage.
All plans including the Basic plan is given an uptime of 99.95%. This means that your website nearly won’t experience downtimes. When your site is down, it cannot be accessed by viewers and can hurt your business or your brand. With a 99.95% uptime, eUK Host promises that your website will be up and running almost all of the time. The company has partnered with R1soft in order to provide daily website backups through R1soft’s Continuous Data Protection (CDP) app. Thus you are protected in cases of data loss.
Finally, the Basic plan offers you unlimited email accounts. You can use this to give mailboxes to a variety of people and departments of your business. Multiple people in charge can take charge of their own mailboxes without having to share it with other people.
eUKhost gives you a variety of options to get support:
- Web Hosting Forum,
- Self-Help Knowledgebase,
- Online Live Chat Support,
- Submission Of Tickets,
- Service Status Page,
- Contact Forms, and
- Telephone Support.
Their self-help knowledgebase gives you a variety of information at your disposal without the need to contact their support team. It contains guides on their products and/or services. The web hosting forum is great for users who want to talk to other users and company representatives regarding issues they might face with hosting.
Submission of tickets and contact forms make it easier for users to contact the support team without having to open their own email accounts for sending messages. Phone support and online live chat is available 24/7 and is best used by customers who manage their website outside of work hours.
The Service Status page of eUKHost is very handy. It shows the current service status of various platforms of the company include Shared, VPS, and Cloud. It indicates a variety of statuses such as Normal Operation, Partial Outage, Major Outage, and Schedule Maintenance. In the Service Status page, schedules of various operation and maintenance processes are included as well. Emergency scheduled maintenance is announced in the page too.
eUKhost has garnered multiple positive reviews when it comes to their customer support service. Most people see the value for the money they shelled out on eUK Host because they always provided a 100% solution to their problems. Their customer support staff are very knowledgeable even with complicated problems. In addition, most reviews stated that their support staff are very courteous and patient.
Signing up with eUKhost comes with various advantages. Below are some of them:
Excellent Customer Support Service
Most reviews stated that they have an excellent customer support service. With multiple options such as telephone, online live chat, and forum support, among others, you are sure that you can get your questions answered immediately. In addition, they have a Service Status page stating the current status of their services.
They have partnered with R1soft to provide daily backups of its users’ data. This is important in case data loss happens. Recovery of data will be easy since backups are made on a daily basis.
If you register for 12 months or more, you get a free domain with a selection of multiple extensions. This comes in handy for first-timers who are just starting their own website. You don’t need to pay an extra for the domain name you are just about to try out.
The Basic plan gives you unlimited subdomains and unlimited domains. Unlimited parked domains is also a feature. This feature is very important if you manage multiple websites and wouldn’t want them on separate hosting accounts.
You can get a 30-day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with their services. Again, this is important especially if you are just trying out their products and/or services.
2GB Of Data Only
The Basic plan gives you a total of 2GB of storage space only. This is definitely not as much as most of the competition, it could have been justified if the price was better… To get 20GB worth of storage space, you have to get the Advanced plan which costs GBP 6.66 per month including VAT.
Do we recommend eUK Host? The answer is probably not. But, do we explicitly state that you should avoid them? Definitely not. We’re pretty neutral when it comes to eUKhost.
We do recommend you check out alternative options like our favourite, SiteGround, to make an informed decision. Alternatively, you can browse through our reviews of the best web hosting services in the country.
